Adult Learn to Skate (ALTS) is a program designed for adults new to skating

Adult Learn to Skate (ALTS) is a program designed for adults new to skating. The program is designed to develop the initial coordination and strength that will allow the skater to move easily on the ice. ALTS offers a structured curriculum that allows skaters to progress through six levels, starting with basic skills and working their way up to more complex techniques.

The ALTS program is open to adults of all ages and fitness levels. It recognizes that learning to skate can be a daunting task for adults who have never stepped on ice before. The program provides a supportive and encouraging environment where participants learn at their own pace.

The first level of the ALTS focuses on basic skills such as balance, correct posture, and gliding forward. Skaters will learn how to get off the skateboard and move through the ice with confidence. Instructors will introduce techniques such as stops, turns and crossovers to help skaters feel more comfortable on the ice.

As skaters progress to levels two and three, they will begin to learn more advanced skills such as back slides, spins and transitions. These skills are critical to building a solid foundation and preparing you for more complex movements. Coaches will also work on improving strength and flexibility to improve the skater’s overall performance.

When skaters reach the fourth and fifth levels of the program, they learn jumps, spins and more complex footwork. These elements require higher levels of coordination and strength that participants will develop through previous levels. Skaters will also have the opportunity to perfect their technique and receive personalized feedback from experienced instructors.

The final level of the ALTS focuses on advanced techniques such as combination jumps, complex footwork sequences and figure skating. Skaters who reach this level will develop a solid foundation in figure skating and be well prepared to pursue more competitive or recreational opportunities on the ice.

The benefits of participating in the ALTS program go beyond learning to skate. Skating is a great form of exercise that helps improve cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and balance. It also provides adults with a social channel to connect with others with similar interests.

ALTS are offered at various rinks throughout the region, with classes at convenient times for commuters. The program offers flexibility, allowing participants to choose group lessons or private instruction based on individual preferences and goals.

Adults who complete the ALTS program often find a new sense of self-confidence and accomplishment. Many people continue their skating journey by joining a local adult skating club or participating in recreational skating events. ALTS has successfully helped countless adults explore the exciting world of skating and unlock their hidden potential on the ice.
